How to Stylise your Fire Pit

How to Stylise your Fire Pit

In Ireland, people have become more creative when it comes to their outdoor living set up.

Fire pits have become a popular feature in most Irish back gardens. We like to think of a fire pit not just as a stagnant object that sits in your garden, but a piece of outdoor furniture you can stylise and customize to your heart's content.   A fire pit can be dressed up to suit any aesthetic, and if styled successfully could be the focal point of your garden. Here are some ideas on how you can stylise your fire pit!

Block Fire Pit

A block fire pit is a great approach to giving your fire pit extra charm. A block fire pit for those of you who don't know is when a block structure is built around your fire pit. It can help your fire pit align better with the theme of your garden as a standard steel fire pit may not be the right fit based on your garden's aesthetic. A block fire pit can be relatively cheap and would last quite a while once it is properly maintained. The first step when making your block fire pit is selecting the right blocks. Head into any hardware store and choose a wall block that will best suit your garden's look and feel. Once you have your blocks, choose a suitable fire pit base and construct a block wall around the base. Layer the blocks on top of each other sticking them together with mortar until a perfect circular block structure is formed. Just like that, you have a beautiful block fire pit that perfectly fits your garden.

Contemporary Approach

In more recent years, Irish people have begun to appreciate modern contemporary design. Small garden patios paved with bright stone and different shades of grey are very in vogue in 2022, and the same goes for fire pits.

When creating a contemporary finish fire pit, select the right fire pit base. Forming the surrounding structure is all about being creative so it's ideal to get a good base that will allow you to work around it. If it's a concrete structure you’re going for, you should then create a wooden frame with measurements that would perfectly fit the fire pit base within its centre. Create a cement mixture which you will pour and allow to set within the wooden frame. Once the cement sets, you will remove the frame and you are left with a clean concrete finish fire pit which would compliment your contemporary garden style.   If you want to go all out with your design a marble perimeter also offers a beautiful finish but at an extra cost.

Square Fire Pit

Generally when you think about a fire pit, a circular base comes to mind. If you are someone who wants something a bit different when it comes to your fire pit, why not scrap the idea of a circular pit and build a square one! Creating a square fire pit is a similar process as building a block fire pit with a few minor tweaks.

Firstly, select what block or other materials you would like to use to form your square structure. A block structure is the most common.  Map out dimensions of your square. Then, starting at the corner, place the corner block. Next, you will have to cut a block and put the cut-end against the corner block in order to create the actual corner of the pit.  Build out blocks from the corners in whatever design you like.

Finish the square fire pit by adding wall caps to the corners of the fire pit and voila - your square fire pit will add a subtle hint of personality & individuality to your garden

Conclusion.

That's it - some simple add ons you can make to your fire pit to give it that little bit of extra personality. Your fire pit is an investment and something you will have for a while so it is worth going a bit extra with it if it means you are happy with it. Be creative and get stuck in!
